Vedran Jakšić Osijek, Croatia
Climbing high up a tree, Vedran feels its clarity and elasticity in the wind. Wood speaks to Vedran, without him saying a word, they understand each other on a deeper level.
Vedran was destined for a life as an Electrician until he bought his first set of chisels that changed everything. At 14, he started creating small, abstract sculptures with the cordwoods he used to bring his grandmother for firewood. He soon became the youngest wood carver in Croatia traveling around the country carving large public sculptures for churches and government.
His sculptures mirror what is hidden in the earth where wood stands, where the tree leaves its roots echoing the themes of origin, birth, and growth - the incredible power of the Earth.
