Kago Kago
Tokyo, Japan

Naoyoshi Maeda searches the mountains and countrysides for the masterminds of wonderful baskets of Japan, masters of braiding plants.  Collecting baskets and documenting the makers he keeps their traditions alive.  Their craft dates back to the Jomon period (14,000 – 300 BC).  Trees and plants instruct their hands to produce; their superb skills is where the present and the past cross paths.

“I admire the knitting hands that keep knitting my life.”
