YUKIKO WADA
SUZAKA CITY, NAGANO PREFECTURE

B. 1980
CERAMICIST, PORCELAIN

As a child, Yukiko Wada lived in Shigaraki, one of Japan’s oldest ceramic towns, and always liked to sketch. She began to combine her interests in pottery and the visual arts with the “icchin” method of drawing delicate patterns on ceramics. Inspired by European architecture and antiques, Wada draws her patterns in a meditative state of mind, improvising as she goes so as not to repeat patterns, and reveling in the pleasure of the creative process.
