For more than 30 years, the Ishida family—Seki Ishida, her late husband Wataru, and her son Satoshi—have been honing the laborious art of Pâte de Verre glassmaking in their small studio in Kyoto, Japan. Drawing on their background as designers of traditional kimono patterns, they forge lustrous, almost translucent glass treasures possessed of an innate lightness, reminiscent of ice sculptures or traditional Japanese confectionery.
