WEAVER

Weaver Hitomi Abe's work is a record of process and time. Through meditative yatara (which translates to "random") weaving, Abe carefully wraps strips of bamboo over many hours to form her meticulous objects, For example, each rock found on the beach under a full moon is wrapped with 100 strips of bamboo. Inspired by the rich bamboo weaving tradition of Abe's home, Oita Prefecture, she began weaving in 2011 while studying at Tokyo's Joshibi University of Art and Design.
