Kamahishi Lavender Bowl
BY Shimizu Glass
$290 USD
Meticulously engraved with a swirling, labyrinthine pattern, Shimizu Glass Co.’s Kamahishi Lavender Bowl is a sterling example of Edo kiriko cut glass from masters of the ancient Japanese art form, who have been practicing it for more than 100 years.
Crafted entirely by hand by a team of master glass-cutters in a small workshop in Tokyo, the bowl’s intricate patterning is made with two unique tools: the “kamaboko,” used to create round cuts on the bowl’s curved surface, and the “hishi,” used to make V-shaped cuts at its base and around its rim.
