LUNET OIL LANTERN

Starting at $1,150 USD

Inspired by 19th century European oil lamps, the Lunet is a masterwork of free-blown glass replete with intricate, carefully considered details, from its amphora-shaped bulb to its cylindrical, elegantly tapered hurricane.

Pre-orders will be available to ship mid-November.

Designed, prototyped, and refined by Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer over the span of months, the Lunet is marked by several signature details: The small vessel housing the oil at the lantern’s center is not a perfect sphere, but instead a refined, meticulously proportioned bulb, inspired in shape by ancient Greek amphora vases and carefully calibrated to maximally amplify the light from a burning wick. It is encased by a cylindrical, slightly tapered hurricane, accented with ridged openings that allow air to flow through each end of its base, keeping the flame both fed and protected. And it stands atop one of five stems, each united in ethos but set apart by slight variations in shape, size, and design—ranging from stacked, almost spindle-like towers to flowing, feminine pedestals. The Lunet is free-blown in stages before undergoing a rigorous, multiphase cold work process, during which a single master glassblower cuts, grinds, polishes, and assembles the Lunet’s every component entirely by hand.
