Perla Valtierra is the founder and designer of Valtierra Cerámica. She originally studied industrial design. After traveling to rural Mexico to work with local craftswomen, Valteirra felt drawn to a life of working with her hands. Abandoning industrial design and traversing the globe in pursuit of traditional pottery techniques, Valtierra practiced the art in Japan, Belgium, and France prior to launching her own line. Valtierra Cerámica is made completely by hand in the Bajío region of Mexico. The female-owned brand supports a team of twenty local artisans and creatives.
