Raised Platter

BY  Heami Lee

$7,900 USD

Based in Seoul, Korea, ceramicist Heami Lee handcrafts elegant and glossy porcelain pieces painted with gold rim or silver. In order to make her Silver Line series, Lee first fires the porcelain piece and then paints it with silver with a brush and fires again at a high temperature. The artisan repeats this process three or four times until she achieves the clear silver color and shimmering effect that she desires. The gleam of the silver may change over time, part of silver’s natural process.

Not microwave, dishwasher, or oven safe. Use a soft scrubber to clean and dry thoroughly.  Because it is pure silver, sulfation occurs naturally.

About Heami Lee

Heami Lee is well-known for her elegant and glossy porcelain which is painted with gold-rim or silver. The Korean artisan majored in ceramics at Hongik University and now runs Heami Atelier, her studio and a showroom in Hannam-dong in Seoul. Lee works in porcelain, and her simple objects have an airy and light texture. To create her silver works, she first fires the porcelain piece, and then paints it with silver four or five times with a brush. It’s then fired again to build up the color and attain the feeling she desires. The layered silver creates a gleam which may slowly change over time, part of Lee’s ongoing exploration of “temporality.”
