Tomohiro Kano
Tokyo, Japan

In 1958, Tomohiro Kano was born in Toyko and is a descendant of the prominent Kano family that served as official painters for samurai rulers from the fifteenth to the late nineteenth centuries.  Tomohiro studied Nihonga painting in college until he found his voice in the art of glass-making and has received worldwide recognition for his sculptural glass works.  His approach is to use glass molds vs. clay or wax - his unusual glass casting method maintains the integrity of the glass and gives to an exploration into how shapes are born.
