The Porto Sconce, first showcased in the critically acclaimed exhibition A Certain Slant of Light, reflects designers Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch’s signature focus on color, texture, and historical craftsmanship.
Hand-blown in Brooklyn, the Porto’s vase-like glass shade gracefully rests atop a sturdy, handcrafted metal arm and is available in three styles—aubergine, opaline, and clear. Intricate knurled detailing, an expansive backplate that tapers elegantly toward the base, and a custom-cast lip highlight its minimalist design and unique materiality.
The versatile Porto is ideally suited for hallways, above headboards, in reading nooks, or flanking bathroom mirrors. Whether displayed individually at eye level as a luminous piece of wall art or arranged in a series along a staircase, the sconce serves as both a functional design object and a striking sculptural statement.

About the Designers
Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer are the founders and principals of Roman and Williams, Roman and Williams Guild, La Mercerie, and Guild Gallery. In addition to finding and assembling the world’s most prodigious artists for their modern guild of the senses, the husband-and-wife team prolifically makes, creates, and leads. In their work, nature serves as a timeless source of inspiration for the future of how we live.

The Porto sconce is available in three unique tones: pale Aubergine, iridescent Opaline, and Clear glass with water-like clarity.

The brass sconce body is hand-spun by generational masters at a 150-year-old French foundry.

The custom-cast brass lip sits in quiet contrast to the crisp modern gleam of Porto’s solid brass sconce body.

The Clear glass shade gleams like a torch on its burnished brass arm.
