About Wolfard Glassblowing Co.
In 1972, Jon Wolfard, a glassblower, made his wife a handblown glass oil lamp as a gift that became a centerpiece in their home. Friends began requesting the lamps for themselves, and in 1973 the Whitney Museum of American Art included the lamp in their exhibition “High Styles: Twentieth Century American Design.” In 2004, longtime employee Richard Trevethick and his partner Tom Relyea who moved the company to Sebastopol, California. Skilled glassblowers craft each object using Wolfard’s exclusive “in-flame” technique at higher-than-usual temperatures. The oil lamps are handblown from borosilicate glass, adding durability to the classic designs.
