Black & Gold Vase No. 1 and No. 2

BY  Janaki Larsen

$500 USD

Vancouver-based ceramicist Janaki Larsen hand throws and hand glazes each of her one-of-a-kind works. Her Black and Gold Vases are inspired by forms in nature including flower pods. The tarnished gold glaze reflects the artisan’s love of decaying opulence like Baroque architecture that has been overcome by nature’s elements or silverware that has been blackened by use. Evoking ancient metal or tarnished gold, these vases appear to be softened by age.

Vases in group No. 1 are 4” – 5 1/2” tall, vases in group No. 2 are 6” – 7” tall; no two are exactly alike.

About Janaki Larsen

Janaki Larsen grew up in the prairies of Alberta and on the coast of British Columbia. The daughter of artists, she attended the Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design where she studied ceramics. Each of her pieces is hand-thrown and hand-glazed so no two are exactly alike. Each work carries its own raw identity with a quiet and monochromatic aesthetic that feels as if it has survived from another time and place. Larsen finds her inspiration in clay from the earth.
