Lunet Oil Lantern in Aubergine
Starting at $2,400 USD
Designed, prototyped, and refined by Guild founders Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer, the Lunet in Aubergine's elegant form is derived from Greek figurative pottery, between the mid-eighth century and the mid-fourth century B.C., married with the craft of 19th century European oil lamps. Each piece is free blown in stages before undergoing a rigorous, multiphase cold work process. A single glassblower blows, cuts, grinds, polishes and assembles the Lunet's components entirely by hand: a small vessel, housing the oil at the lantern's center. and a cylindrical tapered hurricane with ridged openings, to feed and protect the flame. Subtle variations in the bubbling, rippling, and finish of every lamp reveal the glassblower's touch and technique. The tinted glass brings an entirely different feeling to the beloved form of the Lunet Oil Lamp: the romance of dusk, a sense of clarity in the darkness.
