High craft embodied, our classically French, exquisitely comfortable mattress is hand-sewn and -stitched by a master French upholsterer at a boutique workshop in Brooklyn.
Every stitch, seam, and tuft of our French Mattress is carefully made by the hand of a master French upholsterer, who spends more than six weeks meticulously crafting each individual mattress at his family-owned workshop in Brooklyn. An overscaled welt runs along the top and bottom edges of the mattress, providing weight and structure that prevent sagging in the center and sustains the mattress’s shape over time. For superior comfort and durability, the mattress is filled with a soft, custom latex core and stuffed with 100 percent wool batting. Offered in both a diamond and square tuft pattern finished with pulled thread details–a hallmark of historical French technique–each French Mattress is made to order, fully customizable, and perfectly proportioned to fit all of our daybeds.

Stephen Alesch and Robin Standefer are the founders and principals of Roman and Williams, Roman and Williams Guild, La Mercerie, and Guild Gallery. In addition to finding and assembling the world’s most prodigious artists for their modern guild of the senses, the husband-and-wife team prolifically makes, creates, and leads. In their work, nature serves as a timeless source of inspiration for the future of how we live.
