TENSIRA
Republic of Guinea, West Africa

Hamidou and Tuulia Makinen Diallo, husband and wife duo, created TENSIRA with a mission of empowering craft communities in the Republic of Guinea. Their hand-spun, hand-woven, and hand-dyed items are all made in a small West African town known for their centuries-old indigo dyeing tradition. These works celebrate the dyer’s and weaver’s knowledge of their craft while promoting fair wages, and a healthy, safe work environment for over 100 artisans. All TENSIRA products are woven with 100% cotton and filled with Kapok fiber, a natural fiber native to Guinea and sourced directly from the Kapok tree. Available in stunning patterns, colors range from subtle to saturated, the final product is a fusion of Nordic design and traditional West African craftsmanship.
