A233 Vase

by Casey Zablocki

Casey's vases have perfectly classical forms, that attain an almost parapsychological power in their materially imperfect expression. The curves of this vase are so precise; there is tremendous tension between this and the raw substance of the vessel.

Based in Montana, Casey Zablocki fires his pieces in a traditional wood anagama kiln, a technique he learned during a ceramic apprenticeship in Korea. This method produces a uniquely wild, pebbled, and rough finish on his unconventional work that probes the boundaries between sculpture, function, and art.
