Create An AccountAbstract stone sculpture in Brown Alabaster with wood base. De Nijs's work explores the interplay of volumes alone in their full existence or combined with other forms, divided by clear or more muted lines. Her distinct handwriting can be found in repeatedly combining sculptured stone with rough parts of the rock or traces of her tools. With their strong yet subtle presence, her abstract sculptures are a surprising element in a realistic environment; a sublime accent in a concrete world of tables, chairs, and living creatures.

For more than 30 years Mirjam De Nijs has been making sculptures out of natural stone. Her background in Dutch language and literature, art history and aesthetics cultivated her inquisitive mind. Mirjam’s sculptures are the cumulative expression of her exhaustive inquiry, sculpting is a language of its own that exists beyond the visible reality and reaches further than our understanding. Themes of movement, the inevitable relationship between the stone and the design communicate the mysteries of the Earth. Mirjam works on a island outside of Amsterdam surrounded by the elements.
