About Atsushi Funakushi
Funakushi feels like something is missing when he looks at his ceramics and that they need food to be complete. He believes that good products are timeless and loves simple and balanced designs. His love for ceramics was nurtured by his mother, who was a big fan of ceramics and found objects and he grew up being surrounded by them. Starting in high school, he studied ceramics formally and appreciated his teachers' designs for being traditional yet modern. When he established his own kiln, he began making plates and bowls, envisioning them to be used for special occasions.
